Weik and Baratka Win WMT's Boom Lake Tournament


There were twenty legal muskies registered at the WMT's Boom Lake tournament on Sunday, August 24th. The first muskie registered was a 39 3/4 incher at 6:19am by the team of John Cestkowski and David Godin. The largest muskie of the contest scored 44 3/4 inches at 7:18am by Bob Dekker and Randy Pearson. The team of Brad and Al Wirt would be the first team to double up for the event with a 35 3/4" muskie at 6:35am and a 40 3/4" muskie at 9:56am. The Wirt's lead would hold up until 12:28pm, when the team of Jason Baratka and Jason Wiek scored on their second of the event with a 43 1/2 incher to add the their earlier catch of 40 1/2 inches at 8:36am. Another team to register two fish would be Gary Tutaj and Doug Dollhopf with catches of 40 3/4 inches at 10:04am and 34 3/4 inches at 11:39am. The final muskie of the contest would come at 3:29pm and score 37 1/4" by Jim Olson and James Holloway, but because it was their second of the day, their earlier catch of 43 inches at 9:24am would land the duo a second place finish.

Other teams who scored on muskies during the WMT's Boom Lake tournament were: Derek Bartz & Mark Myre 35 1/2" at 6:44am, Greg Kliss & Phil Amstadt 41 3/4" at 8:17am, Neil Barnett & Bill Hill 36 1/2" at 8:19am, Charlie Ross & Jerry Rzepka 34 1/4" at 9:07am, Lee Bastian & Scott Hansen 37 3/4" at 9:27am, Mark & Robbie Rottier 35" at 10:23am, John Slaton & Chris Ksioszk 40 1/2" at 12:38pm, Bob Bender & Snuffy Smith 35 1/2" at 1:23pm, Jeff Piazza & Ivan Stross 36 3/4" 1:40pm, and Randy Kaurenen & Phil Markgraf 38 1/2" at 3:15pm.

The WMT's Boom Lake "MUSKIE DOUBLE HEADER:(TM) tournament top five finishers were:

1st - Jason Weik/Jason Baratka
2nd - Jim Olson/James Holloway
3rd - Brad & Al Wirt
4th - Gary Tutaj/Doug Dollhopf
5th - Bob Dekker/Randy Pearson

The next tournaments for the WMT is a "MUSKIE DOUBLE HEADER"(TM) weekend with the Eagle River Chain tournament Saturday, September 6th and the Sand/Dam Lake Chain on Sunday, September 7th. Because the Eagle River Chain and Sand/Dam Lake Chain tournaments are a "MUSKIE DOUBLE HEADER"(TM) weekend, the team who wins both of the tournaments back-to-back will win the $20,000.00 bonus, that would tally $40,000.00 for the weekend for the winning team with a full field. During the weekend, anglers will be looking also to capture a 50 inch muskie and take home the $20,000.00 fifty inch pool.

Both of the Eagle River Chain and Sand/Dam Lake Chain tournaments still have some open spots. It is still possible to sign up for the event by logging on to the WMT's web site www.WMTseries.com for the entry form, and mailing it to the WMT. Also, you can sign up for the tournaments on Friday, September 5th at the Hiawatha Supper Club on HWY 17 on the north side of Eagle River on the shores of Duck Lake, from 5:00pm to 7:30pm. And, you can sign up for the Sand/Dam Lake Chain tournament on Saturday, September 6th at the Hiawatha Supper Club from 6:00pm to 6:30pm.

All of the WMT's one-day tournaments and Major Open Championship are open to the public. You can fish in one tournament or as many as you like.
