Butternut Lake

Weik and Baratka Victorious at WMT's Butternut Event

The Wisconsin Muskie Tour™ (WMT) Butternut Lake "MUSKIE DOUBLE HEADER"™ tournament on Sunday, May 30th, produced nine muskies for the one day event. The night time temps of 28 degrees didn't cool down the activity level of the muskies for the event as the mornings fishing was hot. Most of the teams who participated during the Butternut Lake "MUSKIE DOUBLE HEADER"™ qualifier reported having several opportunities of catching muskies within the first hour of competition, however only five legals would be registered before 8:00am.

The first muskie to be registered for the day would be captured by the team of John Kleczewski and Brandon Dunbar at 6:54am with a 38 incher. At 7:27am, Ben Bain and Marcus Malyuk would score on a 36.25 muskie. Fishing alone, Patrick Kingsland would tally a 38.25" muskie at 7:52am. Mike Bess and Craig Hansen would get in to the action with a 37" muskie at 7:55am. The big fish of the tournament and the eventual winner would score 39.25" at 2:38pm by the team of Jason Weik and Jason Baratka.

Other teams to score on muskies for the Butternut Lake "MUSKIE DOUBLE HEADER™" were: Matt Raley & Jeff VanRemortel 34.50" at 6:58am, Brian Wojciechowski & Aaron Kolosovsky 36.25" at 11:20am, Mark Lijewski & Clay Schroeder 35.50" at 2:40pm, and Brain Kastner & Brian Emmerich 35.75" at 2:41pm.

The WMT's Butternut Lake "MUSKIE DOUBLE HEADER"™ top five finishers were:
1st - Jason Weik/Jason Baratka
2nd - Patrick Kingsland
3rd - John Kleczewski/Brandon Dunbar
4th - Mike Bess/Craig Hansen
5th - Ben Bain/Marcus Malyuk

The next tournament for the WMT is a "MAJOR OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP"™ event on the Three Lakes Chain this weekend of June 6th and 7th. There are still some spots open for the tourney. If you would like to fish the "BADGERLAND OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP"™ tournament on the Three Lakes Chain, you can sign up for the tourney on Friday, June 5th at the Big Stone Golf Course on HWY 32 between 5:30pm and 7:30pm. Like last year, we are certain that the WMT's Three Lakes Chain tournament will produce a bunch of muskies during the event providing plenty of action for the competitors.
