Lijewski and Schoeder Win WMT's Squirrel Lake Tourney

The Wisconsin Muskie Tour™ (WMT) “MUSKIE DOUBLE HEADER”™ qualifier, on the Squirrel Lake Sunday, June 28 th would prove to be a very tough competition as the anglers would have to battle with high winds and a rough sea, making fishing difficult at best. There would be seven muskies registered for the single day tournament.

Muskie fishing would start out fast during the calm of the early morning as Mark Lijewski and Clay Schroeder would tally a 35.75 inches at 6:14am, followed closely behind at 6:25am would be David Hanson and Joe Buffington’s muskie of 35 inches. After the fast start however, the condition would get much tougher and there would be no fish scored for the rest of the day until the last hour of the competition. At 3:05pm, the father and daughter team of Matt and Alyssa McCumber end the eight hour drought with a solid 38” muskie. Chas and Chris Martin would score on a 40.50 incher at 3:10pm. Scoring on a 38.50” muskie at 3:12pm was the team of Neil Barnett and Bill Hill that would eventually give the duo a third place finish. The only team to tally two muskie for the event would come at 3:26pm when Lijewski and Schroeder scored on a 41.25 incher. The final muskie of the day would come at 3:40pm by Ron Golec and Josh Sadlon that measured 35.25 inches.

The WMT’s Squirrel Lake “MUSKIE DOUBLE HEADER”™ tournament top five finishers were:

2nd - Chas & Chris Martin
3rd - Neil Barnett/Bill Hill
4th - Matt and Alyssa McCumber
5th - Ron Golec/Josh Sadlon

The next tournaments for the WMT are “MUSKIE DOUBLE HEADER”™ events on the Boom Lake Chain and the Sand/Dam Lake Chain in August 15 th and 16 th. There are still some spots open for each tourney. If you would like to fish the Boom Lake Chain tournament, you can sign up for the tourney on Friday, August 14 th at the Dog House Bar and Grill on HWY 47 just north of County Highway K between 5:30pm and 7:30pm. Registration for the Sand/Dam Lake Chain event will be on Saturday, August 15 th at Pit Lik’s Sand Beach Resort from 6:30pm to 7:30pm.
