Last Minute Heroics Win WMT's Phillips Event


The Wisconsin Muskie Tour™ (WMT) traveled to Price County to host the fifth and sixth "MUSKIE DOUBLE HEADER"™ qualifier for the 2010 tournament season on Saturday, June 5th and Sunday the 6th. There would be 14 muskies registered for the one day Phillips Chain event.

The first muskie to be registered for the contest would be scored by Al Severson and Joe Meyer at 6:32am, measuring 40.75 inches. The team of Jason Baratka and Jason Weik would put a 34.25" muskie "on the board" at 12:15pm. At 1:29pm, Mark Lijewski and Clay Schroeder would double up with catches of 36.25 inches and a 38" muskie at 12:01pm. Jerry Wilke and Kevin Lathen would get in to the action when they scored on a 40" muskie at 1:40pm. Fishing alone, George Kingsland would land a dandy 40.50 incher at 3:06pm. The final muskie of the day would be registered by Jason Baratka and Jason Weik just under the wire at 3:58pm with the biggest muskie for the event tallying 47.50 inches giving the duo a total of 81.75 points and the victory.

Other anglers to score muskies during the WMT's Phillips Chain of Lakes "MUSKIE DOUBLE HEADER"™ were: Keith and Ken Krejci 36.50" at 9:13am, Doug Behm and Mike Kucken 37.75" at 10:17am, John Kleczewski and Brandon Dunbar 38" at 10:42am, Jarod Leslie and Travis Graham 37.25" at 10:37am, Peter Huettl and Chris Sinnot 38.25" at 11:47am, Dan Clark and Mike Buser 38.75" at 1:25pm, and Bill Griffin and Chuck Miefeld 36.50" at 2:55pm.

The WMT's Phillips Chain of Lakes "MUSKIE DOUBLE HEADER"™ top five finishers were:

1st - Jason Baratka/Jason Weik
2nd - Mark Lijewski/Clay Schroeder
3rd - Al Severson/Joe Meyer
4th - George Kingsland
5th - Kevin Lathen/Jerry Wilke

The next tournament for the WMT is a "MAJOR OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP"™ qualifier on the Three Lakes Chain of Lakes on the weekend of June 19th and 20th. There are still some spots open for the tournament. The Three Lakes Chain "BADGERLAND OPEN"™ is open to the public. If you would like to fish the Three Lakes event, you can sign up for the tourney on Friday, June 18th at the Big Stone Golf Course on Big Stone Lake, just off HWY 32, between 5:30pm and 7:30pm.
