Bennett and Kiedrowski Win 2010 WMT's "Invitational Championship"™

The Wisconsin Muskie Tour™ (WMT) concluded its historic 10th Anniversary season at the "2010 WMT INVITATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP"™ on September 25th and 26th, on the Pike/Round Lake Chain. Sixty six teams competed during the weekend in muskie fishing's most prestigious event, with the highest cash purse for a muskie tournament circuit of $42,000.00. There would be a total of twenty three muskies registered for the weekend event with fifteen registered on Saturday and eight muskies on the final day.

The only team to score on three muskies for the contest would be John Bennett (of St. Germain) and Brent Kiedrowski (from Minocqua) when they landed muskies of 38.75 inches at 10:41am and 37.75 inches at 2:53pm on Saturday, with another 34.50 incher on Sunday to give the duo a total of 111 points and the tournament series championship. The 2010 WMT Championship would be Kiedrowski and Bennett's first professional muskie tournament victory as they took home the first place check of $30,000.00 for their effort. The duos winning pattern was to fish the shallow edges of the aquatic vegetation and within the pockets of the vegetation, catching two muskies on a Double Cowgirl, and one on a soft plastic swim bait.

The first muskie of the contest would be captured by John Kleczewski and Brandon Dunbar at 7:38am when they landed a 41.50 incher in shallow water. The first team to double up for the contest would be Gene Schulz and Dave McGaw when they tallied muskies on Saturday of 45 inches at 9:25am and 37.25 inches at 10:22am. However, the 37.25 incher was deeply hooked but the cooler waters was of no help to keep the muskie to survive giving the team a total of 72.25 points with the ten point deduction, leaving the door open for another team to edge them out of second place. Scoring on a 38.25 inch muskie on Saturday at 3:48pm and a 35" at 9:30am on the final day of competition, Mark Gillich and Joey Rozanski would capture second place with 73.25 points. Matt Raley and Jeff VanRemortel would score on two muskies on Saturday with a 37 incher at 10:40am and a 35" muskie at 1:40pm finishing at fourth place with 72 points. The largest muskie of the tournament would be landed by the team of Eric Dombeck and Nelson Eisele measuring 45.75 inches at 9:05am on Sunday, giving the team a fifth place finish.
