BOLTON & BARATKA WIN AT MOHAWKSIN

For the sixth year in a row, the WMT made a tour stop on Lake Mohawksin and as usual, the event was memorable, with a lot of exciting muskie action. The tournament, held on Saturday, June 17th, was the tenth qualifier for the WMT and a full field of anglers took advantage of the very cooperative muskies.

The first team to score on a muskie would be Steve and Mike Schneider with a 39 ¾ incher. Steve and Mike were deep into the thickest vegetation and the muskie gave them a thrill as it hit their bucktail hard, as soon as it hit the water. At 7:41am, the team of Mike Bruggink and Bryan Schaeffer would take over the lead when they measured a 42 ¼ incher up the Wisconsin River. The lead would change hands again for the third and last time at 10:29am when Chuck Bolton and Jason Baratka tallied their second muskie of the event, a 42 ½ inch beauty, to go along with their first muskie of 36 ½ inches at 7:30am. Baratka and Bolton would eventually hold on to their first place finish, earning the duo a check for $10,000.00 and an automatic invitation to the Wisconsin Muskie Tour’s Invitational Championship.

Evan and Buck Derleth would land the largest muskie of the tourney at 10:54am, with a 44-inch lunker that would land the father and son team a fourth place finish. Steve and Mike Schneider would also double-up for the event with a 38-½ inch muskie. Randy and Bob Krohn would also tally two for the contest with a 39 ¼ incher at 9:34am and a 35 ¼ inch muskie at 3:39pm.
