WMT’S Mohawksin & Boom Tournaments Still Open

The Wisconsin Muskie Tour™ (WMT) still has some remaining spots open for the Lake Mohawksin and Boom Lake tournaments this Saturday, August 14th and Sunday the 15th. Each tournament is a one day event that will pay out $10,000.00 to the first place finishers with a full field of participants, which they have done for many years. The town of Tomahawk with its world class muskie fishery, Lake Mohawksin, and Rhinelander’s Boom Lake have been such a popular stops for the anglers competing in the WMT circuit and this year is shaping up to be more great events.

The WMT’s Lake Mohawksin tournament is the first of two qualifiers for the WMT on the weekend of August 14th and 15th, with the second one day event being held Sunday on the Rhinelander Chain of Lakes. Each tournament is a separate qualifying event for the WMT, and teams may fish one or the other tournament or both, however the teams who choose to compete in both tournaments have the opportunity to win the “MUSKIE DOUBLE HEADER”™ bonus of an extra $20,000.00 if they should win both events on the same weekend. With a history of both tournaments filling up, that would mean teams competing in both events having a chance to win $40,000.00 for the weekend.

Recent reports of very big muskies, in the fifty inch class, being caught in both Lake Mohawksin and Boom Lake will make for a very exciting weekend at the WMT’s “MUSKIE DOUBLE HEADER™ events. Available this weekend is a $10,000.00 bonus at each event if a team should catch the first muskie over fifty inches for a total of $20,000.00 for the weekend. With so many big fish actively hitting anglers baits lately on both waters, it could make the phrase “money fish” mean even more.

Teams competing in the Lake Mohawksin tournament, as well as in the Rhinelander Chain event, will also be fishing to qualify for the most prestigious event in muskie tournament fishing, the WMT’S INIVITATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP™. Qualifying for the WMT’S INVITATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP™ importance is more critical than it has ever been in the history of the WMT because for the first time, the WMT is guaranteeing a first place pay-out of $30,000.00 to the winners and a purse of over $42,000.00, making it the largest cash pay-out for a muskie tournament circuit championship. Anglers who do well at the WMT’s Lake Mohawksin or Rhinelander Chain tournaments will have an opportunity to compete in this year’s 2010 WMT INVITATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP™ that will be held at the nearby Pike/Round Lake Chain just west of Minocqua on HWY 70.

The WMT’s 2010 season is an historic milestone for all muskie tournaments and muskie tournament circuits as we are celebrating our 10 YEAR ANNIVERASRY. The WMT’s Lake Mohawksin tournament is an historic event, in and of itself, as the WMT will be hosting its 150th tournament as an organization. And just to demonstrate how significant an achievement of hosting 150 events is, the next largest muskie circuit (continuing at their present rate) will reach that 150 tournament mark at the end of their 2028 season.

The WMT’s unprecedented popularity and astonishing growth can be directly attributed to its innovative format and the great anglers who compete on the tour. From the beginning, the WMT’s philosophy was to award as much as possible while keeping the entry fees low. With a payback of over 100% in cash and prizes, the tour has been very popular with tournament anglers and their positive comments have attracted hundreds of new anglers every year to join in the fun. And even though there is a lot at stake at each of the WMT’s events, all of the contestants are very friendly towards each other and their courtesy is appreciated not only by their fellow competitors, but by other folks enjoying the water as well. Anglers of all skill levels, ages, men and women alike are attracted to the WMT’s tournaments where they are likely to meet new friends for life. Because the WMT visit so many different waters, it affords the muskie anglers, both novice and skilled veterans the opportunity to learn new waters and pick up new techniques.

The WMT’s Lake Mohawksin qualifying tournament is open to the public to fish. The WMT is taking early registrations for the Lake Mohawksin tournament or you can sign up the Friday before the tournament, August 13th, at Sara Park between 5:30pm and 7:30pm.
