MAJKA AND SPOERL WIN PIKE/ROUND LAKE CHAIN TOURNAMENT

The Wisconsin Muskie Tour (WMT) visited the Pike/Round Lake Chain on Saturday, June 24th, producing seventeen muskies for the day. The story of the day was severe weather, which caused a delay at the start of the tournament and again in the afternoon, effecting the muskies attitudes and costing the competitors valuable time on the water.

When the storm had cleared out and the tournament’s ease-out began at 6:50 am, it didn’t take the team of Bob and Scot Miesbauer long to register the first muskie at 7:17am that measured in at 34 inches. Jason Weik and Ryan Miller would take the early lead when they registered their second muskie of the day at 10:44 am with a 36 ½ incher, to add to their earlier catch of 34 ¼ inches at 7:36am. The largest muskie of the day would tip the scales at 43 ½ inches, registered by Marcus Malyuk and Ben Bain at 8:44am while using a Bull Dawg over the tops of submerging vegetation. At 11:28 am, the Miesbauer’s would tally their second muskie of the day with a 42 ½ inch lunker that would regain the lead for the two brothers.

The lead wouldn’t be enough however, when at 11:53am,the team of Greg Majka and Ed Spoerl would score on their second of the day, a 34 ¾ incher to go with their earlier 42 inch muskie at 9:41am, giving the team a ¼ inch edge over the second place team and giving them a first place finish. The last team to double-up for the day would be Kraig Kolka and Andy Mann when they would tally a 35 ¼ inch muskie at 2:29pm, just before the nearly one-hour suspension of competition due to a severe thunderstorm that produced hail, high winds and lightening and torrential rain. When the weather had cleared, Kolka and Mann resumed their deep water pattern and caught another legal 35 ¾ inch muskie on just their second cast at 3:20 pm, giving the team a third place finish.

2nd place: Bob and Scot Miesbauer 34” + 42 ½”
3rd place: Andy Mann and Kraig Kolka 35 1’4” + 35 ¾”
4th place: Jason Weik and Ryan Miller 34 ¼” + 36 ½”
5th place: Marcus Malyuk and Ben Bain 43 ½”
6TH place: Mark Gillich and Tony Podhora 42 ¾”
7th place: Dan Buss and Bob Chitty 41 ½”
8th place: Mark Lijewski and Clay Schroeder 39 ¾”
9th place: Dave Lenk and Kevin Bjelland 38”
10th place: Phil Schweik and Pete Hilman 36” @ 2:28pm
11th place: Matt McCumber and Ryan Blair 36” @ 4:45pm
12TH place: Steve and Mike Schneider 35 ½”
13th place: Ken and Keith Krejci 34”
