Mahner and Mahner Win WMT's Boom Lake Qualifier

The Wisconsin Muskie Tour™ (WMT) hosted the eighth and final "MUSKIE DOUBLE HEADER"™ qualifier for the 2010 tournament season on Sunday the 15th of August, on Boom Lake. The WMT's Boom Lake tournament would mark a mile stone in muskie tournament fishing history as it would be the one hundred and fiftieth tournament hosted by the WMT, the first time a muskie tournament or muskie tournament circuit, has ever accomplish the feat. There would be thirteen muskies registered for the one day event that would average 41.25 inches.

Prior to the WMT's event on Boom Lake, reports of how "hot" the fishing had been for more than three weeks luckily held up for the tournament as the action was fast and furious with big fish being the rule…not the exception. Denny Spencer and Randy Hazelton started the tourney off right and quickly as they tallied the first muskie only twenty five minutes contest at 6:25am with a 44.50 inch beauty. After 8:30am, the rest of the field would be fishing for second place as the father and son team of Joseph and Prescott Mahner scored on their second fish 43.50 inches to add to their earlier tally of 34.25" at 7:02am. The following fish for the day would come at 9:34am by the team of Eric Dombeck and Nelson Eisele when they scored on another dandy 44.50 incher. At 1:40pm, the big fish of the day would be landed by Gary Tutaj and Doug Dollhopf that measured 46 inches. Kevin and Scott Abendroth would register the final fish for the contest at 2:38pm with a 34.25" muskie, but because the duo tallied a 40.75" muskie at 9:44am, it would give the two a second place finish.

Other anglers to score muskies during the WMT's Boom Lake "MUSKIE DOUBLE HEADER"™ were: Mike and Dan Wojtusik 37" at 6:31am, George Kingsland and Jason VanDeMark 38.26" at 6:41am, Mark and Paul Gillich 44” at 9:45am, Sam Ubl and Abe Lang 44" at 12:38pm, Greg Danner and Mike Hintz 41.25" at 2:32pm, and John Danner and Jim Kuczmarski 43.75" at 2:32pm

The WMT’s Boom Lake “MUSKIE DOUBLE HEADER”™ top five finishers were:
1st - Joseph and Prescott Mahner
2nd - Kevin and Scott Abendroth
3rd - Gary Tutaj and Doug Dollhopf
4th - Denny Spencer and Randy Hazelton
5th - Eric Dombeck and Nelson Eisele

The next tournament for the WMT is a "MAJOR OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP"™ qualifier on the Manitowish Chain of Lakes on the weekend of August 21st and 22nd. There are still some spots open for the tournament. The Manitowish Chain "R.A.M.M. Cup Open Championship"™ is open to the public. If you would like to fish the Manitowish event, you can sign up for the tourney on Friday, August 20th at the Little Bohemia Restaurant on HWY 51 in Manitowish Waters, between 5:30pm and 7:30pm.
